What Is Shape-Up Sun Prairie? Shape-Up Sun Prairie is a coalition of community partners committed to carrying out the mission. The mission of the coalition is to improve the health of Sun Prairie residents by decreasing weight by increasing physical activity and improving nutrition. We work to educate the public on the dangers of obesity, specifically among our youth, and to reverse the obesity trend among youth in Sun Prairie. In a recent study it was learned that 1 out of every 4 teens in 7th-12th grade meets the criteria of obese. Sun Prairie has the "heaviest" teens and Dane County and we are working to change this dangerous trend. |

Week 7: 100% guessed correctly: Banana, Strawberries, Apple, Grapes All are nutritious and eating a variety of fruit is important for a healthy diet. The better choice depends on how big a snack you need. A single serving of grapes or strawberries is a lighter snack that might not be enough to satisfy you for long. Eating a double serving or combining them with another food groups, such as low fat/low sugar yogurt or a whole grain cereal would satisfy you longer. Online voting for Week 2: 17%=Double Bacon Cheeseburger and 83%=Cheese Pizza? If you think a double bacon cheeseburger is a snack, you’d better see your doctor for a cholesterol test. Two slices of cheese pizza is also a bit much for a snack. One slice of cheese or veggie pizza would be a better choice, especially if on think wheat crust.

Online voting was split down the middle 50:50 Week 1 -- Small CULVER’S sundae or Small MCDONALD’S fries? Both have some nutritional value, but neither is a healthy snack. Given the choice, the French fries are “less bad”, especially if you have a small order. That delicious ice cream sundae far outweighs even a large order of fries in calories and fat. Consider a smaller sundae, or enjoy it infrequently –and don’t leave off the nuts! Almonds or other nuts are an important part of a heart healthy diet.
