MUAY THAI
Muay Thai uses eight body parts as defense (the hands, shins, elbows, and knees). Elbow strikes are mostly used while in close range fighting. They can be thrown sideways (like a hook), upwards (like an uppercut), or downwards. The hardness of the elbow allows for hitting with considerable force and is very effective when used properly in a self-defense situation.
Knee strikes are used to "shock the thigh" of an attacker or a sharp strike to the groin. If able to gain head control of the attacker, a sharp thrust of the knee to attackers head can render them unconscious long enough for the victim to escape.
Some of our instructors attended a 3-day seminar in Summer 2008 and trained for seven hours with 6-time World Champion and International Kickboxing Hall of Famer Saekson Janira.
