ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR Hi, I’m Laura Kaiser, and I started Karate in June 2005, when I was ten years old. I received my black belt on May 17, 2008, which is my current rank. I am currently in 9th grade.
Why I Started Ironically, I originally started because my brother wanted to take classes, and since I was too young at the time to be left home by myself, my parents would take me to the classes. I still didn’t have much desire to be in Karate until after a I had taken a few classes and didn’t feel as foreign on the Karate floor, and the biggest aspect that appealed to me was the self-defense.

I'm Still Here Because . . . I could go on and on about this! I’m still here because Karate has changed me- it has given me confidence, it has given me strength, it has given me control over my mind and body, it has given me a desire to lead, it has given me a higher sense of knowing what is right and what is wrong, and so many other wonderful things. It has given me the opportunity to meet many amazing people, who have inspired me countless times, whether it be in the middle of a class or just something they say, or even something as simple as a high five or a smile. They help me reach higher and higher and dig deeper and deeper into this beautiful sport, and they motivate me to help others to do the same! Hobbies/Interests I like a variety of things, ranging from trying to understand genetics better to fictional writing. |
Advice to Anybody Thinking of Taking Classes Don’t be scared or intimidated! One of my favorite things about Karate is that it is a constantly humbling sport, because you are forever refining your form, whether that’s through the corrections of an instructor or advice from a partner or something you yourself notice and tweak. The people here at Karate America are some of the nicest people I know, and we all want to help you improve! Advice to the Novice Martial Artist Learn from the mistakes of others. If one of the instructors goes up to a person near you and fixes their stance, double-check your stance to make sure it’s correct, this can really go a long ways, and you can improve much, much faster and learn more and more with every class you take! Another thing you can do is strive to learn one new thing and improve one thing each class, this way you know that you are improving with every class you take! Other Things I'd Like To Share A tip someone once told me: everything seems easier when you’re smiling. Try it! It works very well for me! |
